Myanna Buring

Myanna Buring was born My Anna Margaretha Buring Rantapää on September 22, 1979, in Sundsvall, Sweden. She spent her early years in the Middle East before moving to Great Britain at the age of 16. Buring attended the American British Academy in Muscat, Oman, and later pursued higher education at the University of Bristol, where she studied Drama and Spanish. She further honed her acting skills, graduating from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2004. Early in her career, she also served as the associate director of the MahWaff Theatre Company, demonstrating an interest in both performance and production.

Buring’s career trajectory began in 2004, with early television appearances in shows like ‘Murder Prevention’ and ‘Casualty’. A significant turning point came in 2005 with her leading role as Sam in the horror film ‘The Descent’, which gained her recognition within the industry. She continued to build a diverse filmography, appearing in genre films such as ‘Doomsday’ (2008), ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’ (2009), and ‘Kill List’ (2011). Her involvement in ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ (2011) and ‘Part 2’ (2012) as Tanya Denali further exposed her to a wider audience.

Her television work includes notable roles across various British series. From 2012 to 2016, she was a series regular as Susan “Long Susan” Hart / Caitlin Swift in ‘Ripper Street’. She also had a recurring role as Edna Braithwaite in ‘Downton Abbey’ (2012–2013). More recently, Buring has been recognized for her portrayal of Tissaia de Vries in the popular Netflix fantasy series ‘The Witcher’ from 2019 to 2023.
