Niurka Marcos Calle was born on November 24, 1967, in Havana, Cuba. Her career began as a dancer at the Tropicana cabaret in Havana, which led to international touring and increased visibility. She later relocated to Mexico, where she diversified her career into acting, singing, and television hosting. In 2002, Marcos became a naturalized citizen of Mexico, under the administration of President Vicente Fox.
Her acting career in Mexican television commenced in 1998 with a recurring role in the telenovela “Vivo Por Elena.” This was followed by appearances in “Nunca te olvidaré” and “Tres mujeres” in 1999. A significant role came in 2001 when she portrayed Karicia in the soap opera “Salomé,” a performance that earned her a TVyNovelas Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 20th TVyNovelas Awards. Marcos continued to appear in various television productions, including “Velo de Novia” (2003-2004), “Corazones al límite” (2004), and “La fea más bella” (2006-2007). In addition to acting, she ventured into music, releasing her first album, “La Emperadora,” in 2007, and has continued to release music, including a self-titled compilation in 2021.
Beyond acting and music, Marcos has engaged in reality television, participating in “Big Brother México” in 2004, and serving as a judge on “Soy tu doble.” She also developed and hosted her own shows, “Espectacularmente Niurka” (2008) and “El Show De Niurka,” which features interviews. Her media presence extends to print, notably posing for the Mexican edition of “Playboy” in 2007. Later roles include appearances in “Fuego en la sangre” (2008), “Emperatriz” (2011), “La mujer de Judas” (2012), “Mi corazón es tuyo” (2014), and “Alma de ángel” (2019). She has also been a participant in “La casa de los famosos” in 2022 and 2025.
