Nneka Ogwumike

Nneka Ogwumike is an accomplished WNBA MVP and champion, recognized for her leadership on and off the court, including her presidency of the WNBA Players Association. After being drafted first overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2012 WNBA draft, Nneka Ogwumike swiftly established herself as a dominant force, earning the WNBA Rookie of the Year award in the same year. Her early international achievements include securing Gold Medals at the USA Women’s U18 FIBA Americas Championship (2008), the USA Women’s U19 World’s Championship (2009), and the World University Games (2011). Ogwumike’s impactful tenure with the Los Angeles Sparks from 2012 to 2023 was marked by numerous accolades, including leading the team to a WNBA Championship in 2016, the same year she was named the WNBA Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Demonstrating her commitment to player advocacy, she was elected President of the WNBA Players Association in 2016 and re-elected in 2019. Internationally, Ogwumike further cemented her status by winning the Polish National League Championship with CCC Polkowice in 2013 and the EuroLeague title with Dynamo Kursk in 2017. She also contributed to two more Gold Medals for the USA Women’s National Team, at the FIBA World Championship for Women (2014) and the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup (2018). In 2021, Ogwumike was recognized for her enduring impact on the league, being named to The W25, an honor celebrating the top 25 players in the WNBA’s first 25 years.

In August 2024, Ogwumike took over leadership of the non-profit voting rights organization ‘More Than a Vote,’ directing its efforts to focus on women’s reproductive rights, showcasing her influence and dedication to social causes.
