Patrick Maroon, widely known as the “Big Rig,” is an American professional ice hockey left winger currently showcasing his talents with the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on April 23, 1988, in St. Louis, Missouri, Maroon’s journey to NHL success is marked by resilience and dedication.
Maroon’s hockey career took off during his time at Oakville High School, where he caught the eye of scouts Kelly Chase and Al MacInnis. After two impressive seasons with the Texarkana Bandits in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), he entered the NHL scene as the 161st overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
The “Big Rig” spent three seasons within the Flyers’ organization before making his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks in the 2011–12 season. His impactful presence contributed to the Ducks’ success during the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs, but subsequent trades took him to the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils.
