Paul Jewell is an English football manager and former player. Hailing from Liverpool, the footballing oracle is considered to be a club legend at northern powerhouse – Wigan Athletic. As a player, Jewell won the Associate Members’ Cup with the club in the 80’s, then went on to manage Wigan to football league glory, winning the second division in the 2002-2003 season and also achieving promotion to the Premier League.
Jewell began his playing career with mega-club Liverpool, then continued at Wigan Athletic, where his romance with the club would begin. Jewell finally finished his fruitful career at Bradford City. His enthusiastic personality was liked so much by the club that he became part of the coaching staff. This is where Jewell’s successful career as a manager would begin. Jewell was appointed manager of Bradford City in 1998 and took the club to the heights of the Premier League, before resigning and becoming manager of once European giant – Sheffield Wednesday. He returned to Wigan Athletic to win a second promotion to the Premier League, but resigned a day after he kept them out of the relegation zone. After establishing his presence as a top manager in English football, Jewell enjoyed spells at Derby County and Ipswich Town.
From competing in the lower leagues, to battling at the top of the English football pyramid, Jewell has done it all. His love for the game still makes him one of the most captivating figures in English sport.
