Penny Lane is an acclaimed American independent filmmaker renowned for her innovative documentary films that blend humor with unconventional storytelling techniques. After earning her AB in American Culture and Media Studies from Vassar College in 2001 and an MFA in Integrated Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2005, Lane began her filmmaking journey at the Children’s Media Project in Poughkeepsie, New York. Since 2002, she has produced over a dozen experimental short films, including notable works like “The Abortion Diaries” and “The Voyagers,” which have been recognized and distributed by VTAPE.
In 2013, Lane made her mark with her first feature-length documentary, “Our Nixon,” which utilized archival Super 8 footage to present a unique perspective on the Nixon administration. The film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and received accolades at various festivals, including the Seattle International Film Festival. Following this success, her second feature, “Nuts!” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2016, winning the Special Jury Award for Editing.
