Pom Klementieff was born on May 3, 1986, in Quebec City, Canada. Her early life involved extensive travel due to her father’s diplomatic career, residing in Japan and the Ivory Coast before settling in France. After facing personal challenges, Klementieff began her acting career at age 19 at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. Her initial professional work included the French independent film ‘Après lui’ (2007), where she acted opposite Catherine Deneuve. Klementieff’s first leading role was in ‘Loup’ (2009), a French film set in the Siberian mountains, which required her to live in challenging conditions and perform alongside real wolves and reindeer.
Klementieff made her Hollywood debut in Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’ (2013), a remake of the South Korean film. For this role, she undertook extensive boxing training to portray her character, Haeng-bok, the bodyguard. Following ‘Oldboy’, she relocated to Los Angeles, focusing on establishing her career in Hollywood. She maintained her martial arts training, achieving a purple belt in Taekwondo. Her career trajectory saw her take on varied roles, including a hacker in ‘Hacker’s Game’ (2015) and appearances in romantic drama ‘Newness’ (2017) and black comedy-drama ‘Ingrid Goes West’ (2017).
