The fabulous Rachel Brown-Finnis is one of Women’s football’s most recognisable figures having enjoyed a prolific career in goal at both Liverpool clubs, on the international stage, and in the United States. She now works as a football pundit for the BBC and BT Sport.
Born and raised in Burnley, Brown-Finnis first discovered football in her native Lancashire. She initially played in a boys’ team at school, before joining Accrington Ladies at the age of 12. By the time she was 15, she had signed for Liverpool Ladies, and made her debut on the opening day of the 1995-96 season. In 1998, she moved to the United States, initially to play for Alabama Crimson Tide, before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, where she achieved the club record for fewest goals conceded in a season. She returned to England in 2003 and joined Everton, going on to help the team lift the 2010 FA Cup and collect her first winner’s medal. Internationally, she made her first appearance for the senior England side in 1997 aged 16. She went on to earn 82 caps. She retired from football in 2014 after brief loan spells with Iceland’s ÍBV, and Arsenal.
Brown-Finnis regularly connects with her legions of followers and fans through Instagram, and Twitter, posting pictures and videos about her life around football and family.
