After releasing the platinum-selling album ‘Sooner or Later’ in 1979, Rex Smith established a multifaceted career across music, television, and Broadway. The album featured the international hit ‘You Take My Breath Away,’ which ascended to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming a staple on soft rock radio playlists. Smith’s musical journey began in the early 1970s, fronting bands such as Tricks and Phaedra, before leading the hard rock group Rex.

Throughout his extensive career, Smith has graced numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway stages, taking on significant roles in iconic productions including ‘Grand Hotel,’ ‘Sunset Boulevard,’ ‘The Scarlet Pimpernel,’ ‘Annie Get Your Gun,’ and ‘Kiss Me Kate.’ His commitment to the performing arts was further recognized in 2007 when he returned to ‘The Pirates of Penzance,’ this time in the commanding role of the Pirate King, a performance that earned him a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle nomination.
