With success as a musician, stage actor, and movie star, Rex Smith is an American actor widely known for his Broadway and television roles. His single “You Take My Breath Away” reached the Billboard top ten in 1979, and he starred in the cult classic television series Street Hawk in 1985.
Smith debuted on Broadway as Danny Zuko in Grease in 1978 and made his film debut in Sooner or Later in 1979. He was featured in the film’s soundtrack and found worldwide success as a recording artist with “You Take My Breath Away”, instantly solidifying his status as a prominent teen idol. He continued to star in stage productions nationwide, winning a Theatre World Award for his role in The Pirates of Penzance. His most iconic TV role came in 1985 when he starred as lead character Jesse Mach in the ABC series Street Hawk. He later appeared in The Trial of the Incredible Hawk, becoming the first actor to ever play a live-action version of the popular Marvel superhero Daredevil.
