Ron Harper

Ron Harper is a retired professional basketball player known for his significant contributions to championship teams in the NBA. After earning first-team All-Ohio recognition in 1982, Ron Harper went on to an exceptionally successful collegiate career at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, from 1982 to 1986. Harper was named MAC Freshman of the Year in 1983, MAC Tournament MVP in 1985, and earned MAC Player of the Year honors in both 1985 and 1986. On March 8, 1985, he set Miami and MAC tournament single-game records with 45 points and 18 rebounds, and became the first MAC player to record a triple-double with 38 points, 19 rebounds, and 12 assists against Ball State University.

Beyond his playing career, Harper served as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons from 2005 to 2007. In 2006, the gymnasium at the Kiser High School facility was named in his honor. He dedicates time to the National Stuttering Association, addressing his lifelong battle with stuttering. In 2023, Harper was inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to collegiate basketball.
