Ryan Clark

Ryan Clark was born on October 12, 1979, in Marrero, Louisiana. He attended Archbishop Shaw High School and later played college football at Louisiana State University (LSU), where he started 36 consecutive games for the LSU Tigers football team. In 2000, he was selected to the All-SEC second team. Undrafted in the 2002 NFL Draft, Clark signed with the New York Giants, beginning a professional career that spanned 13 seasons. His journey included stints with the Washington Redskins and a notable period with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he achieved significant team and individual success.

During his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2006 to 2013, Clark established himself as a key defensive player. He was instrumental in the Steelers’ Super Bowl XLIII victory in 2009, where he recorded five total tackles. He also played in Super Bowl XLV in 2011. Clark earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2011, recognizing his performance at the safety position. A notable challenge in his career was managing a sickle cell trait condition, which led to a splenic infarction in 2007 while playing at high altitudes, requiring the removal of his spleen and gallbladder. Despite this, he returned to play, demonstrating resilience.

After retiring from the NFL in 2015 as a Steeler, Clark transitioned into a successful broadcasting career. He joined ESPN as an NFL analyst for shows like ‘NFL Live,’ ‘SportsCenter,’ ‘Get Up!,’ and ‘First Take.’ In 2023, he was named host of ‘Inside the NFL’ on The CW and won an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Personality/Studio Analyst’ at the 44th Sports Emmy Awards. He also co-hosts the weekly MMA podcast ‘DC & RC’ with Daniel Cormier and co-founded ‘The Pivot Podcast’ with fellow retired NFL players Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder, further diversifying his media presence.
