Sakura Kokumai

As the only female athlete representing the United States in karate at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Sakura Kokumai made history as the first American to qualify for the sport at the Olympic Games. A pioneering figure in American karate, Kokumai has achieved significant milestones throughout her career, including earning the title of USA National Champion (Senior) eight times and Junior Pan American Champion four times. Her early career saw her selected for the U.S. Junior National Team, marking the beginning of extensive international representation.

She also secured a 5th place finish at the 2023 World Karate Championships. Throughout her career, Kokumai advocates for perseverance and discipline, embodying the dedication required for elite athletic success.
