Sam Kekovich

Sam Kekovich has transitioned from an accomplished AFL footballer to a widely recognized media personality and cultural commentator, known for his unique blend of humor and insights. After earning North Melbourne’s best and fairest award in 1969 and serving as the club’s leading goalkicker with 56 goals, Sam Kekovich established himself as a formidable figure in Australian Rules Football. He commenced his senior career with Myrtleford in the Ovens & Murray Football League in 1967, kicking an impressive 55 goals before joining North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) in 1968. Kekovich was a pivotal player in North Melbourne’s historic first VFL Premiership win in 1975, accumulating 124 VFL games for the Kangaroos between 1968 and 1976.

His distinguished playing career also included a brief stint with Collingwood in 1977, where he played four games, and a move to the Victorian Football Association, contributing to the Prahran Football Club’s 1978 VFA Premiership. Kekovich later coached the VFA club Camberwell for three seasons, from 1987 to 1989, and is honored as a distinguished member of the North Melbourne Team of the Century. Following his impactful football career, Kekovich transitioned into media, rapidly gaining recognition for his distinctive ‘rants’ across television and radio. He became a regular presence on the ABC program ‘The Fat,’ featured on PTI Australia on ESPN, and contributed to pre-match AFL coverage on Triple M.
