Sam Taylor

Sam Taylor is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays as a tall defender for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He made his debut in round 11 of the 2018 season against the Adelaide Crows at Adelaide Oval, quickly establishing himself as a crucial part of the Giants’ defensive lineup. Known for his agility and strong aerial ability, Taylor has become a key player for the team, excelling in one-on-one contests and intercept marking.

Originally from Bullsbrook, Western Australia, Taylor was raised in a large family, being the third of seven children. He received his education at Guildford Grammar School, where his passion for football flourished. Before joining the AFL, he showcased his talent at colts level for Swan Districts in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) during 2016 and early 2017, where he caught the attention of scouts with his impressive performances.

A graduate of the AFL Academy, Taylor represented Western Australia in the AFL Under 18 Championships, earning All-Australian honors for his standout play. This recognition led to his selection by the GWS Giants with pick 28 in the 2017 national draft, marking the beginning of his professional career.

Since joining the Giants, Taylor has continued to develop as a player, gaining recognition for his defensive skills and leadership on the field. As he builds on his early successes, he looks set to become one of the premier defenders in the league, contributing significantly to the Giants’ ambitions in the AFL.
