Samantha Arevalo Salinas

Samantha Michelle Arévalo Salinas was born on September 30, 1994, in Cuenca, Azuay, Ecuador. Her swimming journey began early, training in her hometown which is situated at an altitude of 2,400 meters in the Andes Mountains. This high-altitude training environment provided a unique foundation for her endurance and performance in aquatic sports.

Arevalo’s career progressed from national competitions to international events, marking her as a prominent figure in Ecuadorian swimming. She made her Olympic debut at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, competing in the Women’s 800-meter Freestyle. She continued to represent Ecuador at subsequent Olympic Games, including the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, both times in the 10-kilometer Open Water Marathon Swimming event. Her dedication and consistent participation in these elite competitions highlight her commitment to the sport over a decade-long career.

Throughout her career, Arevalo has achieved several notable milestones. In 2015, she earned a bronze medal in the 10 km open water event at the Pan American Games in Toronto. A significant achievement came in 2017 when she secured a silver medal in the 10 km open water event at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, becoming the first Ecuadorian to achieve this feat. She also accumulated multiple medals at the South American Games and Bolivarian Games, further solidifying her reputation as a leading swimmer from Ecuador.
