Scott Robinson is a distinguished American jazz multi-instrumentalist renowned for his exceptional versatility across various woodwind instruments, particularly saxophones. His professional journey began after graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he later became the youngest faculty member. Throughout his illustrious career, Robinson has collaborated with an impressive roster of jazz legends, including Frank Wess, Joe Lovano, and David Bowie. His contributions to over 275 LP and CD releases, including 20 as a leader, underscore his prolific nature and artistic influence in the jazz community. In 2000, Robinson was honored by the U.S. State Department as a jazz ambassador, which led to a significant tour of West Africa. This experience not only allowed him to share the rich legacy of Louis Armstrong but also resulted in the acclaimed album “Jazz Ambassador: Scott Robinson Plays the Compositions of Louis Armstrong.” His efforts to promote jazz and its history are commendable, reflecting his passion for the genre.
Robinson’s innovative spirit is further exemplified through his work with unusual instruments, such as the contrabass saxophone and the ophicleide.
