Selena Sturmay

Selena Sturmay was born on June 21, 1998, in Edmonton, Alberta. She began her curling career competing in junior championships, making her first appearance at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2016. Skipping her team from Airdrie, she secured her spot by executing a runback double takeout. Her team achieved a fifth-place finish at the national championship that year. In 2018, Sturmay represented Alberta at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship alongside her brother Karsten. The same year, she won the U Sports/Curling Canada University Curling Championships as part of the Kristen Streifel rink, representing the University of Alberta. This victory qualified her for the 2019 Winter Universiade, where the team reached the quarterfinals.

Sturmay’s junior career peaked in 2019 when she skipped her team to an undefeated 10-0 record at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships, winning the national title. This success led to her representing Canada at the 2019 World Junior Curling Championships in Liverpool, where her team earned a silver medal after a close final game against Russia. In the 2019-2020 season, she aged out of juniors but continued her success by securing her second U Sports title with the Alberta Pandas at the University Curling Championships. She then joined the Kayla Skrlik rink as third for the 2020–21 season, before returning to skipping her own team in the 2021-22 season. Her team found success on the tour, winning the Alberta Curling Tour Championship. The 2023–24 season marked a significant turning point, with a new team formed with Danielle Schmiemann, Dezaray Hawes, and Paige Papley. This team won the 2024 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts, qualifying Sturmay for her first Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

At the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Team Sturmay delivered a strong performance, finishing first in their pool with a 7-1 record, including notable wins against Kerri Einarson, Kaitlyn Lawes, and Krista McCarville. They advanced to the playoffs, ultimately finishing in fourth place after a 6-4 loss in the 3 vs. 4 game. Beyond her curling achievements, Selena Sturmay is a registered nurse with Alberta Health Services. She is married to Keaton Boyd, balancing her professional career with her demanding curling schedule. Her career demonstrates consistent progression from junior success to competitive national and international play, establishing her as a prominent figure in Canadian curling.
