Shah Rukh Khan, born on November 2, 1965, in New Delhi, India, began his acting career in television during the late 1980s. He gained early recognition for portraying negative characters in films like “Darr” (1993), “Baazigar” (1993), and “Anjaam” (1994). After moving to Mumbai in 1991 following the death of his mother, he made his film debut in “Deewana” (1992), which earned him the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. He quickly transitioned to romantic lead roles, becoming known as a “romantic hero” for films such as “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (1995), “Dil To Pagal Hai” (1997), and “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” (1998). His career has seen him star in over 100 films, accumulating numerous accolades including 14 Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2025.
Khan’s career progression includes memorable performances in critically acclaimed films like “Devdas” (2002), where he played an alcoholic, “Swades” (2004) as a NASA scientist, and “Chak De! India” (2007) as a hockey coach. He also received praise for his portrayal of a Muslim man with Asperger syndrome in “My Name Is Khan” (2010), a role for which he dedicated several months to research. Beyond acting, Khan is a businessman, co-founding the production company Red Chillies Entertainment and co-owning the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. He has also engaged in philanthropic efforts focused on healthcare, disaster relief, and children’s education, earning him the UNESCO’s Pyramide con Marni award in 2011.
Following a period of career setbacks and a four-year hiatus, Khan made a notable comeback in 2023 with the action thrillers “Pathaan” and “Jawan.” Both films achieved significant commercial success, with “Jawan” breaking box office records and earning him another National Film Award. His diverse filmography and business ventures underscore his status as a global entertainment figure. Khan is often recognised for his global influence, being named one of Newsweek’s fifty most powerful people in 2008 and one of Time magazine’s most influential people in the world in 2023.
