Sophie Drakeford-Lewis has established herself as a netball international with the Vitality Roses and a prominent player in the Vitality Netball Superleague, while also pursuing academic and, more recently, tennis endeavors. After earning a bronze medal at the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup with the England U21 squad, Sophie Drakeford-Lewis made her debut for the senior England national netball team, the Vitality Roses, later that year during the Netball Europe Open Championships. Drakeford-Lewis also commenced her Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) career in 2017 with Saracens Mavericks (formerly Hertfordshire Mavericks), where her strong performance led to a nomination for the Young Player of the Season award in 2018, having scored 283 goals. Prior to her netball success, Drakeford-Lewis also achieved top British rankings at under-16 and under-18 levels in competitive tennis by the age of 15.
In 2023, Drakeford-Lewis joined Surrey Storm in the VNSL. Prior to the 2024-25 season, Drakeford-Lewis made the decision to conclude her full-time netball career, signaling a strategic shift in her professional endeavors. Demonstrating her versatility and enduring athletic talent, she returned to competitive tennis in 2024, participating in the prestigious Lexus Surbiton Trophy. Drakeford-Lewis maintains her status as a recognized netball international and a prominent former player in the Vitality Netball Superleague, showcasing a dynamic career path that blends elite sport with a strong academic background in engineering.
