Tiana Metuarau

Tiana Metuarau was born on January 15, 2001, in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England, to Waimarama Taumaunu and George Metuarau. Her mother is a former New Zealand netball international, while her father played and coached rugby union. Metuarau’s family returned to New Zealand when she was three years old. She attended Wellington East Girls’ College. Her netball career began early, playing for Central Zone in the Beko Netball League in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, at just 16 years old, she became a replacement player for the Central Pulse, making an immediate impact with her vision, athleticism, creativity, and ball skills. That same year, she was also part of the World Youth Cup-winning NZU21 team.

Metuarau continued to develop her career, joining Southern Steel for the 2021 ANZ Premiership season, where she performed as a starting goal attack, demonstrating improved shooting numbers and dynamic movement. Her successful season with Steel led to her first selection in the senior Silver Ferns squad in 2021, making her international debut with a player of the match performance against England. She returned to Central Pulse in 2022, where she was appointed co-captain and contributed to another ANZ Premiership title win. Her career includes multiple grand final appearances and titles with Central Pulse, including championships in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

Throughout her career, Metuarau has been recognized for her all-round game, abundant skillset, and budding leadership capabilities. She was a travelling reserve for the Silver Ferns Netball World Cup 2023 campaign in South Africa. Her ability to consistently perform at an elite level and her dynamic playing style provide a point of difference on the court. She is looking to continue her strong performance following an injury-affected 2024, aiming to push to new heights in her sport.
