Thomas Daley

Thomas Daley has transitioned from a record-breaking Olympic diver to a global advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and a notable television personality. After becoming the youngest individual to win a gold medal at the European Championships in Eindhoven at just 13 years old in 2008, Thomas Daley went on to represent Great Britain at the Beijing 2008 Olympics at 14, becoming Britain’s youngest competitor and the youngest from any nation to reach an Olympic diving final. Daley’s early career also saw him secure the title of youngest winner of the senior British 10m title and youngest male medallist in a world diving event in 2008. He achieved a career-best ranking of number one in the FINA World Aquatics Championships Diving Rankings for the 10m platform in 2009, the same year he secured his first World Championship gold in the 10m platform.

In 2013, he publicly came out, leveraging his platform as a global advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. He served as a mentor on the ITV celebrity diving show ‘Splash!’ from 2013-2014 and hosted the ITV2 travel series ‘Tom Daley Goes Global’ in 2014. For his extensive services to diving, LGBTQ+ rights, and charity, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2022. Most recently, after securing a silver medal in the Men’s Synchronised 10m Platform with Noah Williams at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Daley announced his retirement from professional diving in August 2024, capping an illustrious career.
