British actor Tolga Safer rose to prominence in the film version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in the role of Igor Karkaroff’s Aide. His other notable film credits include 2007 British film Shoot on Sight with Brian Cox and Sadie Frost, and the British urban thriller Sugarhouse alongside Ashley Walters and Andy Serkis. Safer has also appeared in several television series including Doctors and Casualty for the BBC and also starred in CBS Film’s thriller American Assassin with Dylan O’Brien.
Born to Cypriot parents in London, Safer began acting in school plays when he was just seven years old before attending the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School. Safer got his first big break when he was cast in the British independent film Culture Menace in the role of Timur. Safer then auditioned for the role of Viktor Krum in Harry Potter, but the studio felt Safer wasn’t right for the part. However, director Mike Newell was so impressed with Safer’s acting skills and unique appearance that he created the part of Igor Karkaroff’s Aide specifically for him in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire .
Safer is also an accomplished stage actor, who performed in the controversial Bintou at the Arcola Theatre followed by the play Venezuela. He has also appeared at The Royal National Theatre and in several plays at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre including Prayer Room.
