South Africa Tony de Zorzi has established himself as a prominent South African cricketer, transitioning from captaining the national Under-19 squad to securing national contracts and achieving significant milestones in both domestic and international cricket.

Tony de Zorzi was born on August 28, 1997, in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. He commenced his cricket career by captaining South Africa’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, demonstrating leadership capabilities early on. He subsequently made his Twenty20 debut for Northerns against Kenya on September 16, 2016. De Zorzi’s first-class debut for Northerns occurred on October 28, 2016, in the 2016–17 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup, followed by his List A debut on October 31, 2016, in the 2016–17 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge. By January 2018, he scored his maiden century in List A cricket for Titans against Knights in the 2017–18 Momentum One Day Cup. His career progression continued with selection to the Titans team for the 2018–19 season and as captain of the Cricket South Africa Emerging Squad in July 2018. Later, in January 2020, he achieved his first double century in first-class cricket, scoring an unbeaten 213 runs for Titans against Cape Cobras in the 2019–20 CSA 4-Day Franchise Series.
De Zorzi’s international career commenced in February 2023, when he was selected for South Africa’s Test squad against the West Indies, making his Test debut on February 28, 2023. In March 2023, he was named in South Africa’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against the West Indies, debuting in the second ODI on March 18, 2023. Further demonstrating his leadership, he was appointed captain of the South Africa A squad for their tour to Sri Lanka in April 2023. A significant achievement in his ODI career came in December 2023, when he scored his maiden international century, an unbeaten 119 against India during the second ODI match of a three-match series. He also achieved his first Test century against Bangladesh in October 2024. His consistent performances led to him receiving his first national contract from Cricket South Africa, alongside Nandre Burger.
De Zorzi has also been involved in various domestic teams globally, including Durham (2018), Paarl Rocks (2018), Hampshire (2019), Punjab Kings (2021), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2022–present), and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (2022–present). He has been a member of the winning squad for the 2023-25 World Test Championship, highlighting his contribution to the national team’s success. His career has been marked by a steady progression, from junior representative cricket to becoming a recognized international player across multiple formats, characterized by significant batting milestones and leadership roles.
