Tony Warner has transitioned from a professional goalkeeper with extensive club experience to a respected goalkeeping coach, shaping future talent in the football world. After an impactful tenure at Millwall where he made over 200 appearances, Tony Warner played a key role in the club’s promotion to the First Division in the 2000-01 season and was instrumental in their journey to the 2004 FA Cup Final. Warner joined Millwall in 1999, quickly solidifying his reputation through consistent performances, which earned him the club’s Player of the Season award in 2003. Prior to his success at Millwall, Warner gained valuable professional experience through loan spells at Swindon Town (1997), Celtic (1998), and Aberdeen (1999).
Transitioning into coaching, Warner took on a player-coach role at Blackpool in 2013, reuniting with Paul Ince and beginning his dedicated focus on developing goalkeeping talent. He continued to build his coaching expertise with two spells at Accrington Stanley, alongside a period coaching internationally in India with Chennaiyin in 2017. Warner’s coaching prowess was further recognized as he served as goalkeeping coach at Bolton Wanderers in 2021 and played a significant part in Bristol Rovers’ promotion to League One, demonstrating his immediate impact on team success. In July 2022, Warner was appointed First Team goalkeeping coach at Reading, where he continued to apply his extensive playing knowledge and strategic insight to nurture elite performance.
As of June 2025, he holds the prominent position of goalkeeping coach at Wigan Athletic, where he remains dedicated to shaping and developing new generations of goalkeepers through his proven methodologies and deep understanding of the game.
