Wes Chatham

Wes Chatham was born on October 11, 1978, in Atlanta, Georgia. His introduction to the entertainment industry came at a young age when, at five, a casting director discovered him during his sister’s audition, leading to a national campaign for Tide. As a teenager, Chatham attended the Give Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a school for troubled youth. During this period, he engaged with a professional theater company, where he was selected to write a play performed by his classmates, an experience that ignited his interest in the arts.

After high school, Chatham joined the U.S. Navy, serving for four years as an aviation firefighter on the USS Essex. His acting career began during his military service when Denzel Washington chose his ship for filming the movie “Antwone Fisher.” This opportunity led to his first movie-making experience and, subsequently, a move to Hollywood. Robi Reed, the casting director, cast him in his first series regular role on Showtime’s “Barbershop.” Chatham gained further recognition working with Paul Haggis and Tommy Lee Jones in “In the Valley of Elah” (2007) as Corporal Steve Penning. He also collaborated with Oliver Stone in “W.” (2009) as Frank Benedict. The following year, he secured another series regular role as Staff Sergeant Sam McBride in CBS’s “The Unit.”

In 2011, Chatham was part of the ensemble cast for “The Help,” playing Carleton Phelan, Emma Stone’s brother. The cast received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. In 2012, he took on his first title role in Joel Silver’s “The Philly Kid,” where he performed his own stunts as a fan of mixed martial arts. His career continued with roles in films like “Broken Horses” (2015) and “The Town That Dreaded Sundown” (2014). From 2015 to 2022, he starred as Amos Burton in the Amazon Prime Video series “The Expanse,” a role that brought him significant recognition. More recently, he has appeared as Captain Enoch in the 2023 Disney+ series “Ahsoka.”
