Professor Steve Peters is a Consultant Psychiatrist and author known for working with business leaders, elite athletes and world-class sports clubs. Specialising in the functioning of the human mind he is ideally placed to help people understand how the mind works, giving them the tools to develop their own skills and optimise performance.
As a consultant to the British Cycling Team, Liverpool FC, the England Football Team, British Swimming and various UK athletics clubs Peters is at the forefront of modern sports psychology. He has also worked with medal winners and record holders including Victoria Pendleton, Sir Chris Hoy, Steven Gerrard, Guy Martin and Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Now an author Peters has written the best-selling book The Chimp Paradox: The Mind Management Programme to Help You Achieve Success, Confidence and Happiness, and a popular version for children called My Hidden Chimp. Both books advise on how to overcome life’s challenges by understanding how your mind is dealing with them and have been widely acclaimed by readers and press alike. Since launching in 2012 The Chimp Paradox has sold nearly 1million copies and has spawned a charitable foundation that works with people to understand their inner Chimp.
Peters has worked within the education system and National Health Service for over 20 years, including at Bassetlaw Hospital, Rampton High Security Hospital, Derby University and Sheffield University, and holds degrees, higher degrees and postgraduate qualifications in medicine, psychiatry, mathematics, education, medical education and sports medicine.
