Yuri Lowenthal is a highly respected American voice actor whose resume is packed with so many iconic superhero and anime characters that it’s hard to know where to start. There are his many anime English voice dubs in shows such as Naruto, Bleach and Tiger & Bunny; there are his American animated roles such as Benjamin in Ben 10, the title character in the 2021 series of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and various characters in the likes of Young Justice and Spider-Man, and there are the dozens of major video games he has voiced characters in, including those from the Marvel, Final Fantasy, Minecraft, and Call of Duty franchises. He has won five BVTA Awards and been nominated for many more.
Lowenthal’s acting career began during high school, and it continued during the two years he spent working in Japan (he is fluent in Japanese). After a spell in theatre and independent films in New York, he and his wife, fellow voice actor Tara Platt, relocated to L.A. to further their careers. However, things really clicked when they took a voice-acting class, which led to work re-dubbing Japanese anime cartoons into English. Before long, he’d got his first big video game break too, voicing the titular character in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, now regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made.
From that point, Lowenthal’s career trajectory was unstoppable — and it remains unstoppable. In less than 20 years, he has gathered nearly 800 shows, games, and films to his name — and that figure will be out-of-date by the time you read this, such is his prolific nature.
