Rising curling star Yuta Matsumura is making a name for himself in the sport. Skipping for his rink Team Matsumura, he is no stranger to the podium. Relatively unknown on the World Curling Tour circuit, 2015 marked a turning point in Matsumura’s career. Placed as alternate for the Japanese team, Matsumura found himself standing in sixth place in the tournament. Since that breakthrough moment, Matsumura has taken up the reigns and has led his team to spectacular success.
Dropping into the 2018 Oakville Fall Classic, Matsumura captured his first World Curling Tour title of his career. Born out of this pivotal moment, within a month, Matsumura then claimed the Driving Force Abbotsford Cashpiel. With momentum gaining, Matsumura had found his curling groove. Representing his home nation, Matsumura defeated China in the 2018 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships and claimed the gold title. Progressing to skip, Matsumura smashed the 2019 Japanese Men’s Championship too. Now captaining his own rink, Matsumura is making waves in the curling sport as we know it.
Thriving off of the support of friends, family and teammates, Matsumura is a worthy leader. Sharpening his skills on the ice, Matsumura is fast developing his precision, strategy and anticipating the endgame. In a short career, Matsumura has already shown his masterful control in competition. Now with two World Championship appearances under his belt, Matsumura is about to take the curling world by storm.
