Petrolhead Zhou Guanyu is a professional racing driver, who currently competes in Formula 1 for Alfa Romeo. In February 2022 he became the first Chinese driver to participate in the F1 Pre-season Testing, and the following month he became the first Chinese driver to participate in the full F1 Grand Prix, as well as the first Chinese driver to win F1 Championship points in the first race.
Born and raised in Shanghai, Zhou Guanyu started racing go-karts when he was eight-years-old. He then moved to England with his family to settle in Sheffield for a more competitive racing environment, and in 2013 he joined the local Strawberry Racing team, going on to win both the Super 1 National Rotax Max Junior Championship and the Rotax Max Euro Challenge. He moved up to Formula 4 in 2015 and after consistent podium finishes, he ended the season as runner-up and best rookie. He then joined team Motopark for the 2016 FIA European F3 Championship, before moving on to FIA Formula 2 in December 2018.
Success continued on the track, and during the winter break before the start of the 2021 Formula 2 season, Zhou Guanyu returned to F3 to compete in the Asian Championship, going on to win the championship. However, Formula 1 had always been his dream, and having already been a member of the Alpine Academy and served as the test driver for the Renault F1 Team in 2020 and the Alpine F1 Team in 2021, his driving skills didn’t go unnoticed. Alfa Romeo came calling and he signed on with the team for the 2022 F1 season, partnering Finnish ace Valtteri Bottas, and making history by becoming the first Chinese driver to compete in Formula 1.
Zhou Guanyu regularly connects with his hundreds of thousands of followers and fans through Twitter, and Instagram, posting pictures and videos of his high-octane lifestyle. He also has an official website, zhou-guanyu.com.
