Anna Gasser was born on August 16, 1991, in Villach, Austria. She initially pursued gymnastics in her youth before transitioning to snowboarding at 18. Her background in gymnastics provided a foundation for her later career in freestyle snowboarding. Gasser began her competitive snowboarding career in the 2010/2011 season. By 2013, she made a significant impact by becoming the first female snowboarder to successfully land a cab double cork 900. Her World Cup debut also occurred in 2013, leading to her first podium finish in Stoneham, Canada, before her first Olympic appearance.
Gasser participated in the Winter Olympics for the first time at Sochi 2014, where she qualified first in the inaugural Olympic slopestyle competition. Despite her strong qualification, she placed tenth after falls in the final runs. She recovered from this to win slopestyle silver at the 2015 World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria. In the 2016/17 season, Gasser achieved significant milestones, including winning the big air small Crystal Globe and the overall freestyle snowboarding big Crystal Globe. She also secured slopestyle gold at the X Games and became the big air world champion in Sierra Nevada, performing the first-ever women’s backside double cork 1080 mute in competition.
Her second Olympic Winter Games at PyeongChang 2018 saw her face challenges in slopestyle, finishing fifteenth. However, she went on to win the big air event, becoming the first female big air Olympic gold medalist with her signature cab double cork 1080. Later that year, she marked another first by landing a cab triple underflip. Gasser continued her career winning the big air title again at Beijing 2022 with a Cab Double Cork 1260. In 2023, she won her second big air world title in Bakuriani, Georgia, solidifying her status in the sport.
