Zack Hoyt, publicly known as Asmongold, was born in Florida and raised in Austin, Texas. Prior to committing to his streaming career, Hoyt secured a business degree and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for two tax seasons between 2012 and 2013, initially considering law school before transitioning to full-time content creation.
Hoyt began his online career in 2009 by producing YouTube videos focused on ‘World of Warcraft’, sharing game insights and strategies. He initiated live-streaming on Twitch in 2011, making it a more consistent activity starting in 2014. His content primarily consisted of gameplay, guides, and patch discussions related to ‘World of Warcraft’. His popularity experienced a significant increase with the release of ‘World of Warcraft Classic’ in 2019, solidifying his position as a prominent streamer on the platform. He maintained this visibility through the ‘Shadowlands’ launch in 2020. In July 2021, he expanded his gaming content by streaming ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ for the first time to hundreds of thousands of viewers.
In October 2020, Hoyt co-founded One True King (OTK), a streaming and content creation organization, with other content creators. He further ventured into business by co-founding Starforge Systems in August 2022, a company specializing in prebuilt gaming PCs. He also hosted the ‘Steak & Eggs Podcast’ starting February 2023.
