Carlos Roberto Pena Jr. was born on August 15, 1989, in Columbia, Missouri. Raised in Weston, Florida, he attended Sagemont Upper School, where he participated in cheerleading and local theater productions such as ‘Grease’ and ‘Man of La Mancha.’ His interest in singing and dancing developed during a role in the American Heritage School’s production of ‘Titanic.’ He subsequently studied musical theater at the Boston Conservatory before pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles. At age 15, PenaVega secured his first acting role with a guest appearance on ‘ER’ (2004). This was followed by guest-starring roles in television shows like ‘Judging Amy’ (2005), ‘Summerland’ (2005), and ‘Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide’ (2004–2005).
PenaVega rose to prominence for his role as Carlos Garcia in the Nickelodeon series ‘Big Time Rush,’ which aired from 2009 to 2013, and was a member of the pop boy band of the same name. During his time with Big Time Rush, he co-wrote songs such as “Oh Yeah” and “Invisible.” The band released three albums: ‘BTR,’ ‘Elevate,’ and ’24/Seven,’ and embarked on several tours, including the Summer Break Tour. Following the conclusion of ‘Big Time Rush,’ PenaVega launched a solo music career in 2014, releasing his first single, “Electrico,” which charted in the top 10 on Latin iTunes. In 2015, he competed on the 21st season of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ reaching fourth place.
In recent years, PenaVega has frequently collaborated with his wife, Alexa PenaVega, on various projects. They co-starred in several Hallmark movies, including ‘Enchanted Christmas’ (2017), ‘Love at Sea’ (2018), and the ‘Picture Perfect Mysteries’ series (2019-2020). He also took on a series regular role in the CW series ‘Life Sentence’ (2018). PenaVega continues his voice acting career as Bobby Santiago in ‘The Loud House’ franchise, which began in 2016. In 2021, Big Time Rush reunited for performances and subsequently announced the Forever Tour in 2022. Carlos and Alexa PenaVega co-authored the book ‘What If Love is the Point,’ released in 2022, sharing their perspectives on faith and life. In 2024, he formed a new band, ANGELS + KINGS, with Alex Marshall.
