About

Carmelo Kyam Anthony, born on May 29, 1984, in Red Hook Houses, Brooklyn, New York City, is a former professional basketball player. His early life saw him move to Baltimore at the age of eight. Anthony attended Towson Catholic High School for his first three years, where he developed significantly, growing five inches to become a 6-foot-5-inch swingman. He was named The Baltimore Sun’s metro player of the year in 2001 and Baltimore Catholic League player of the year, averaging 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals in his sophomore year, and 23 points and 10.3 rebounds as a junior. Despite some academic challenges, he transferred to Oak Hill Academy for his senior year, where he excelled, averaging 21.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, cementing his status as a top high school talent.

Anthony played one season of college basketball at Syracuse University in 2002–03. During this single season, he led the Syracuse Orange to their first-ever NCAA tournament title in 2003, earning the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Award. He set an NCAA tournament record for most points by a freshman with 33 points against the University of Texas in the Final Four. Anthony averaged 22.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, leading his team to a 30–5 record. Following this triumphant freshman year, Anthony declared for the 2003 NBA draft, where he was selected third overall by the Denver Nuggets.

His NBA career spanned 19 seasons, marked by ten NBA All-Star selections and six All-NBA Team honors. Anthony consistently led playoff teams, guiding the Nuggets to conference finals in 2009 and later becoming the NBA scoring champion in 2013 with the New York Knicks. Beyond the court, Anthony has been inducted twice into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025, both as an individual player and as a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team. He also holds the distinction of being the first male U.S. basketball player to win three Olympic gold medals, achieving this milestone with teams in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
