Charles Hurt is a distinguished American journalist and political commentator, currently serving as the opinion editor of The Washington Times and co-host of Fox & Friends Weekend. His career began at a young age in Chatham, Virginia, where he published a local newspaper called the “Gilmer Gazette.” This early experience ignited his passion for journalism, leading him to work for notable publications such as the Danville Register & Bee and the Richmond Times-Dispatch during his college years at Hampden-Sydney College.
After graduating in 1995, Hurt took on his first full-time role at The Detroit News, where he covered a range of topics including crime and local politics. His investigative work contributed to exposing significant political corruption in Detroit’s school system. In 2001, he transitioned to the Washington, D.C. area, joining The Charlotte Observer as a national correspondent, before moving to The Washington Times to cover Congress from 2003 to 2007.
Hurt’s tenure at The New York Post as D.C. Bureau Chief further solidified his reputation, where he reported on major political figures and events, including the White House. He returned to The Washington Times in 2011 as a political columnist and was appointed opinion editor in December 2016, where he has continued to influence conservative discourse.
In addition to his editorial roles, Hurt launched the podcast “Politically Unstable” in 2019, providing insightful political analysis to a growing audience. His extensive experience and keen insights into American politics have made him a prominent voice in conservative media, recognized for his early support of Donald Trump’s populism and his critical examination of media bias.
