Indonesian badminton star Daniel Marthin soared into the top 10 of the BWF men’s doubles world rankings in 2023 with partner Leo Rolly Carnando. The 2019 Asian and World Junior boy’s doubles champion made his debut for Indonesia at the 2020 Thomas Cup, helping his country to win the gold for the first time in 19 years. Marthin enjoyed a show-stopping season in 2022, clinching the gold at the Southeast Asian Games alongside Carnando and also claiming bronze in the men’s team event. In 2023 the Indonesian duo won both the Thailand and Indonesia Masters, sending them soaring into the World’s Top 10. Marthin was nominated for the prestigious Eddy Choong Most Promising Player of the Year BWF award in 2019.
The talented shuttler from Jakarta joined Djarum club in 2015 and focussed on playing in the doubles category since junior level, garnering attention for his attractive style of play. After winning the U–17 Jakarta Open Junior Championships with Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma, he teamed up with Carnando for the first time to win the Astec Open Championships in Jakarta followed by the Singapore Youth International Series. Since playing at senior level the pair has won three BWF World Tour titles and three BWF International challenge titles. After starting 2023 in excellent form, Marthin is now rapidly closing the gap on some of the best doubles players in the world.
