Doug Martin

Born on January 13, 1989, in Oakland, California, Douglas Martin established his athletic foundation in Stockton, California. During his high school career at St. Mary’s, he was a letterman in football and track, demonstrating early talent. As a junior, he accumulated 1,950 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, earning first-team all-selection and all-area honors. His senior year saw him rush for 1,234 yards and 14 touchdowns, receiving the team’s Most Valuable Player award. He continued his football career at Boise State University from 2007 to 2011, where he achieved 3,431 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns. He was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection in 2011 and All-Western Athletic Conference in 2010.

Martin was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft as the 31st overall pick. In his rookie year, he quickly became the team’s starting running back. On November 4, 2012, he had a standout performance against the Oakland Raiders, rushing for 251 yards and four touchdowns, tying an NFL record for rushing touchdowns in a half and breaking franchise records for single-game rushing yards and touchdowns. He concluded his rookie season with over 1,450 rushing yards and nearly 500 receiving yards, earning a Pro Bowl nomination and a spot on the NFL All-Rookie Team. His 1,454 rushing yards set the Buccaneers’ single-season rookie rushing record.

After a season-ending shoulder injury in 2013 and a rebuilding year in 2014, Martin experienced a resurgence in 2015. He finished the 2015 season with 1,402 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, along with 271 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. This performance led to his second Pro Bowl selection and his recognition as a First-team All-Pro. In 2016, he signed a five-year contract extension with the Buccaneers. He later joined the Oakland Raiders in 2018, where he played a significant role, including two 100-yard rushing games, before being released in 2019.
