Gary Mule Deer, a revered comedian and musician, was officially inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on March 10, 2023, by Vince Gill, following an invitation on January 6, 2023. His sixty-year career commenced with professional musical performances, including joining the folk music ensemble The Back Porch Majority in 1964, which also served as the Tennessee Ernie Ford Singers. He subsequently performed with rock groups The New Society, signed to RCA Victor, and Bandanna, under Paramount Records. In the early 1970s, Mule Deer partnered with Denny Flannigan to form the comedy and music duo ‘The Muledeer and Moondog Medicine Show.’ This act gained significant recognition, appearing on television programs such as The John Byner Comedy Hour on CBS, NBCs In Concert, The Midnight Special, and David Frosts Madhouse 90.
Further demonstrating his versatile appeal, he performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2009 and has toured with legendary vocalist Johnny Mathis for 31 years. Today, Gary Mule Deer continues to perform regularly at prominent casinos in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Atlantic City, and Reno, maintaining a robust schedule of live engagements.
