About

Hairul Azreen, born on April 23, 1988, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the youngest child of Idris Ali and Habsah Desa. He developed an interest in martial arts at a young age, earning a black belt in Taekwondo by 16. In 2004, he represented Selangor in the SUKMA Games, a national multi-sport event for young athletes in Malaysia. His early career included work as a stuntman and martial artist in his early 20s. He later transitioned into acting, securing a leading role in the TV9 drama series ‘Mahabbah De Laila’ in 2009. This led to appearances in various telemovies and drama series, such as ‘Teknofobia,’ ‘Pontianak Remaja,’ and ‘5 Bujang.’ His film career began with a debut in ‘Keramat’ in 2011. A significant turning point in his early career was winning first place in ‘Fear Factor Celebrity Malaysia’ in 2013 with teammate Dazrin Kamaruddin, a stunt/dare game show.

In the following years, Hairul Azreen established himself as a prominent actor in Malaysian cinema. He starred in several high-grossing films, including ‘Polis EVO 2,’ which earned 20 million, and ‘PASKAL The Movie,’ which achieved a gross collection of 30 million, becoming the highest-grossing action movie in Malaysia at the time. Other notable leading roles include ‘Wira’ (2019) and ‘Pasal Kau!’ (2020), the first Malaysian-produced original film for Netflix. He also appeared in ‘The Assistant’ (2022), the first Malaysian film distributed by Sony, alongside other projects such as ‘Abang Long Fadil 3’ and ‘MALBATT: Misi Bakara.’

Hairul Azreen expanded his career to include directing and producing. In 2021, he made his directorial debut with ‘Ada Hantu,’ a Malaysian-made film for Disney+ Hotstar. Following positive audience feedback, he directed and served as an executive producer for its sequel, ‘Ada Hantu 2.’ On August 21, 2023, after 15 years in the acting world, Hairul announced his retirement from acting to focus on his family and business ventures. He stated that ‘MALBATT: Misi Bakara’ (2023) and ‘The Original Gangster’ (2025) would be his final film appearances, aiming for them to be memorable contributions.
