Joanna Bacalso

Joanna Bacalso was born in Cebu, Philippines, on August 10, 1976. At the age of eight, she moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with her two younger brothers. She began her professional career as a model, working for Ford Models. Her modeling assignments included both print campaigns and runway shows for clients such as Tommy Hilfiger and Banana Republic. This early exposure in the fashion industry provided a foundation for her transition into acting.

Bacalso’s acting career commenced with television appearances in the late 1990s. She secured guest-starring roles in series such as “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “La Femme Nikita,” “Veronica’s Closet,” and “Wish You Were Here.” She also held recurring roles, including on the CBS series “The District” and a multi-episode supporting role on “Ally McBeal.” Her feature film debut was in the Orion Pictures comedy “Car 54, Where Are You?” in 1994. Further film credits include “Bedazzled” and “Dude, Where’s My Car?”, both released in 2000.

A significant role in her career was as Barb in Disney’s 2002 film “Snow Dogs,” where she appeared alongside Cuba Gooding, Jr. and James Coburn. Her filmography also includes “Half Baked” (1998), “Gangland” (2001), “My Baby’s Daddy” (2004), and “Bad Girl Island” (2007). In more recent television work, she appeared in four episodes of “SEAL Team” in 2019 and an episode of “NCIS: Los Angeles” in 2022. In 2023, she expanded her creative contributions by acting in, directing, and writing the short film “The Frog Who Can’t Ribbit.”
