Jonatan Christie is a prominent Indonesian badminton player recognised for his achievements in men’s singles, including Asian Games gold and multiple BWF World Tour titles. After securing his initial international senior title at just 15 years old by winning the Indonesia International Challenge in 2013, Jonatan Christie quickly established himself as a dominant force in men’s singles badminton. Having joined the Indonesian national team in 2012, Christie demonstrated consistent performance and dedication, culminating in a gold medal in men’s singles at the 2017 SEA Games. He followed this success by clinching another gold at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, further solidifying his position as a rising star in the sport.
Following the 2018 Lombok earthquake, he generously donated his Asian Games winnings to support the construction of a mosque and a school. He has actively participated in various fundraising efforts, including initiatives for clean water, COVID-19 relief, and educational programs for disadvantaged children. In May 2025, Christie transitioned from the national team to become an independent player, seeking greater flexibility to balance his professional career with personal responsibilities. His enduring dedication to the sport was immediately evident with a victory at the 2025 Korea Open.
