Jorge Lorenzo Guerrero, born on May 4, 1987, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, embarked on his motorcycle racing career at a young age. He made his championship debut on his fifteenth birthday in the 125cc Spanish Grand Prix in 2002. Lorenzo quickly rose through the ranks, dominating the 250cc World Championship with consecutive titles in 2006 and 2007. During his 250cc career, he achieved 17 wins, 29 podiums, and 23 pole positions across 48 races, establishing himself as a prominent young talent in motorcycle racing. His success in the intermediate class led to a move to the premier class, MotoGP.
In 2008, Lorenzo joined the factory Yamaha team in MotoGP, where he spent nine successful seasons. He earned rookie of the year honors in his debut season, finishing fourth in the championship and securing his maiden MotoGP win in Portugal. His tenure with Yamaha saw him clinch three MotoGP World Championships in 2010, 2012, and 2015. Over these years, he consistently performed at a high level, securing runner-up positions in 2009, 2011, and 2013. A notable achievement includes eight wins in the 2013 MotoGP season. Lorenzo later moved to Ducati in 2017 and Honda in 2019, eventually retiring from motorcycle racing at the end of the 2019 season with 47 premier class wins, placing him fifth in the all-time list.
Following his retirement from MotoGP, Lorenzo transitioned into sportscar racing. He competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia in 2022 and 2023 with Team Q8 Hi Perform, and also participated in the Porsche Supercup. In 2024, he signed a multi-year deal with Lazarus Corse to race an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the Italian GT Championship, competing in the Endurance rounds. Away from racing, Lorenzo has engaged in media work, including color commentary for MotoGP broadcasts on DAZN in Spain since 2022. He was inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame as an official Legend by the FIM in 2022, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport. Additionally, he has been involved in charitable causes and brand partnerships throughout his career.
