Diver Katherine Torrance is a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, who has represented both England and Great Britain internationally. One of her country’s leading talents on the 1m and 3m springboards, she is coached by Adam Smallwood, and trains at the City of Leeds Diving Club.
After initially training in gymnastics, Torrance began diving at the age of eight, and went on to claim gold medal wins at the ASA National Age Group Diving Championships in three consecutive years. She was soon established as one of the most promising juniors on the British circuit, including earning a decisive gold in the 3m synchro at the British National Cup in 2014, and scooping a bronze and a silver in the women’s 1m and 3m springboard events at the British Diving Championships the following year.
In 2015, Torrance represented Great Britain at the inaugural European Games in Baku, where she won gold in the women’s 3m springboard. The following year, she made her senior European Championships debut in London before travelling to the World Junior Championships in Kazan, where she would take home three medals – golds in the women’s 1m springboard and the team event, and bronze in the 3m springboard.
Over the following season, Torrance made a strong impression on the FINA Diving World Series, became British Champion on the 3m springboard, and finished in close fourth place in the 3m synchro at the European Diving Championships. In 2018, she represented Team England at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, where she and diving partner Alicia Blagg took home silver in the highly competitive 3m synchro event. She would continue her impressive streak the following year, with two Top 5 finishes at the World Championships, and a bronze medal in the team event at the European Championships.
