Kevin Michael McClain was born on October 21, 1996, in Jennings, Florida. He attended Hamilton County High School, where he excelled in basketball under coach Patrick Murphy. McClain was the first student-athlete from Hamilton County High School to receive an NCAA Division I scholarship, ultimately committing to Belmont University on April 15, 2015, over offers from St. Bonaventure University and the University of North Carolina at Asheville. During his freshman year at Belmont, McClain averaged 5.4 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. His sophomore season saw him average 4.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. His career progression started to accelerate in his junior year, where he became a starter for the first time and averaged 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
McClain’s senior season at Belmont was a highlight, as he averaged 16.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, earning him a spot on the All-OVC First Team in 2019. A notable performance included scoring 27 points against Southeast Missouri State on March 2, 2019, which helped Belmont secure an Ohio Valley Conference regular season title. In the NCAA Tournament, McClain contributed 29 points in an 81-70 victory against Temple. He concluded his college career with 1,279 points, placing him 11th on Belmont’s NCAA Division I era career scoring list.
After going undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft, McClain signed with the Golden State Warriors for the Summer League. He then transitioned to a professional career in Europe, signing with EWE Baskets Oldenburg of the German Basketball Bundesliga on July 3, 2019. His ties to Germany stem from his mother’s birth in the country and his grandmother residing there. On August 11, 2020, he moved to Fos Provence Basket of the LNB Pro A in France, where he was part of the LNB Pro B championship team in 2021. He later joined Skyliners Frankfurt from 2023–2024 and played for Giessen 46ers in 2024–2025. On October 30, 2023, McClain briefly joined the Rip City Remix of the NBA G League before being waived on November 7. On June 18, 2025, McClain signed with MLP Academics Heidelberg of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
