Leeza Mangaldas was born in Bangalore, India, and spent her formative years in Goa, attending high school in Kodaikanal. She pursued higher education at Columbia University in New York, where she studied English literature and visual art, graduating in 2011. Following her graduation, she relocated to Mumbai, where her early career included acting roles and co-founding Evoke India, an organization focused on curating speaker events. In 2014, she held a lead role in the film ‘W,’ which addressed themes of sexual violence against women in India. During this period, she also contributed an opinion article in 2013 on related societal issues.
Mangaldas transitioned from a career as a newscaster and sports reporter, a role that included covering the Indian Super League, to focus on sex education. In 2017, she began publishing sex education videos on YouTube in English, intending to provide accessible information on sex, sexuality, gender, sexual health, relationships, and the body. By 2018, content creation became her full-time occupation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she expanded her content to include Hindi videos. Her work in podcasting began in 2021 with ‘Love Matters,’ produced by The Indian Express and Deutsche Welle, followed by ‘The Sex Podcast with Leeza Mangaldas’ on Spotify in December 2021. In 2023, she founded Leezu’s, a sexual wellness brand offering massagers and lubricants.
In October 2022, Mangaldas authored ‘The Sex Book: A Joyful Journey of Self-Discovery,’ published by Harper Collins, with an audio version released on Audible. The book is recognized for its scientifically oriented and accessible approach to sex education. She is also a first-cohort Pleasure Fellow with The Pleasure Project, an international organization advocating for pleasure-based sexual health. Throughout her career, Mangaldas has received recognition for her contributions, including being named HT Brunch Social Media Star of The Week in 2021, featured in GQ India’s Most Influential Young Indians lists for 2020-21 and 2022, and awarded Sexual Health Influencer of the Year at the Cosmopolitan India Blogger Awards 2021-22.
