Lorena Feijóo was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1970 or 1971. Her mother was a former member of the Cuban National Ballet and later became a ballet teacher. Lorena began her formal ballet training at the Cuban National Ballet School at age nine, where she received instruction in various ballet styles, along with other arts and languages. She graduated at eighteen, proficient as both a dancer and a teacher. In 1988, Lorena joined the Cuban National Ballet. After two years, in 1990, she left to pursue more artistic opportunities abroad. She joined Ballet de Monterrey in 1991, followed by a two-year tenure as a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet of Flanders in Belgium. In 1995, she moved to the United States and joined the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, remaining with the company for four years.
In 1999, Lorena Feijóo joined the San Francisco Ballet as a principal dancer, where she performed a wide range of classical and contemporary roles. During her time with the San Francisco Ballet, she performed in global venues including New York, Paris, Tokyo, London, and Milan. Her notable partnerships included collaborations with Carlos Acosta, Jose Manuel Carreño, and Yuri Possokhov. In 2004, Lorena and her sister, Lorna Feijóo, performed together for the first time in Boston Ballet’s production of ‘Swan Lake,’ with Lorena dancing Odile and Lorna as Odette. In 2005, Lorena made her acting debut in Andy García’s film ‘The Lost City.’ Her career also included appearances on ‘Sesame Street’ in 2008 and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in 2011 with her sister and José Manuel Carreño. After retiring from the San Francisco Ballet in 2017, she continued to perform in theatrical productions, including two San Francisco Opera productions. Lorena Feijóo became an associate artistic director of Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre.
Lorna Feijóo also pursued a distinguished career in ballet, becoming a principal dancer at the National Ballet of Cuba before her role as a principal dancer with Boston Ballet. Together, the sisters are regarded as a notable ballet dynasty. Lorna is also a Ballet Mistress and Director of the Pre-Professional Ballet Program at Feijóo Ballet School. Both Lorena and Lorna have been ambassadors for Milk Life (Somos Fuertes), emphasizing their commitment to health and community. Their collective work includes extensive international performances and contributions to ballet education.
