During his sophomore season (2016-2017), Maye delivered a game-winning jump shot against Kentucky in the Elite Eight, propelling UNC to the national title. For his performance during the championship run, he was named to the South Regional all-tournament team and earned the South Regional’s Most Outstanding Player award. His junior year (2017-2018) marked a significant breakthrough, as he averaged 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, garnering Third-team All-American honors from the Associated Press and Sporting News. He was also recognized as the ACC Most Improved Player and named First-team All-ACC in 2018, in addition to receiving Second-team Academic All-American honors.

He then transitioned to European leagues, playing for Dolomiti Energia Trento in Italy during the 2020-2021 season, where he showcased his versatility on the international stage. His career continued in Spain with Baxi Manresa for the 2021-2022 season, followed by a tenure with Covirán Granada during the 2022-2023 season, consistently demonstrating a professional and impactful presence. Maye’s career trajectory led him to Turkey, where he competed for Tofa? throughout the 2023-2024 season. Currently, as of 2024, Luke Maye is a key player for the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins in the Japan Professional Basketball League, continuing to build upon his reputation as a dedicated and accomplished athlete in premier international competitions.
