One of the most recognisable faces of women’s international rugby, Margaret Alphonsi is a talented sportswoman and fantastic after dinner speaker. As one of the most well known names in women’s sport, Margaret retired in 2014 but not before clocking up some fantastic stats: these include playing an amazing 74 times and scoring 28 tires in those games. She was a key member of the team during the 2014 Rugby World Cup and really helped her side lift the trophy. England also won seven consecutive Six Nations tournaments with Margaret in the team and so it was no surprise her side was crowned the BBC’s Sports Personality Team of the Year.
After leaving the game behind, Margaret has become hugely in demand on TV and has commentated on live games for Sky, BBC, BT Sport and more, as well as being the first ever former female rugby player to commentate on men’s international rugby when she was signed up by ITV for the Rugby World Cup. Maggie is also leading the way for women everywhere in that she is the first ever former female rugby player to get elected as a National Member of the Rugby Football Union’s Council. Her role is to be a person of experience and influence in the Game. Hailing from South East London, Margaret Alphonsi is an experienced speaker and brand ambassador who can inspire, motivate and excite audiences of all types, backgrounds and standings with her insightful tales from inside the world of rugby.
