Marinus Kraus was born on February 13, 1991, in Oberaudorf, Bavaria, Germany. He began his professional ski jumping career with his debut at the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in January 2013, held in Vikersund. In the same year, Kraus achieved a significant individual career milestone by securing a second-place finish in Kuusamo in November 2013, marking one of his best individual World Cup results. His personal best jump was 222 meters (728 feet) in Vikersund on February 15, 2015.

Kraus continued to build on his early successes, including a third-place finish at the FIS Summer Grand Prix in Hinzenbach in 2014. A major highlight of his career came in 2014 when he was selected as a member of the German Olympic team for the Winter Games in Sochi. There, he earned a gold medal in the team large hill event, competing alongside Severin Freund, Andreas Wank, and Andreas Wellinger. This Olympic victory solidified his standing as a top athlete in the sport.

Following his Olympic success, Kraus maintained a competitive presence, securing another second-place finish with his team in Willingen in 2015. His career spanned from the 2010–11 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup season through the 2021–22 season, accumulating 60 individual starts and one individual podium finish in the World Cup.
