Marius-Andrei Balan was born on January 22, 1980, in Targu Mures, Romania. He began his dance training at the age of six, exploring traditional Romanian folk dances before expanding into other styles such as jazz, modern, and ballroom. His career in competitive ballroom dancing formally commenced, establishing him as a notable figure in the dance community.
In 2001, Balan formed a dance partnership with Nina Bezzubova. Over thirteen years, this partnership achieved significant milestones, including six World Championship titles and four European Championship titles. Their dance style was noted for its intricate footwork, fluid movements, and musical interpretation. After their partnership concluded in October 2014, Balan formed a new partnership with Khrystyna Moshenska in December 2014, with whom he continues to compete successfully, representing Germany.
Beyond his competitive achievements, Balan is an active coach, sharing his experience and technical knowledge with students. His coaching focuses on developing musicality and artistry, aimed at enhancing emotional connection in performances. He has trained under coaches such as Rufus Dustin and Gianni Caliandro. Balan balances his professional life with family, including his wife Khrystyna Moshenska and their son, Alexander.
