Matthew Guido DiBenedetto was born on July 27, 1991, in Nevada City, California, and grew up in Grass Valley, California. His interest in auto racing began at a young age after receiving a Little League trophy. He transitioned from mini kart racing to the UARA-Stars series, racing late models. In 2007, financial constraints led his family to sell their racing equipment. DiBenedetto then drove for the Fat Head Racing Driver Development Program in the UARA-Stars series, where his performance attracted the attention of Joe Gibbs Racing.
DiBenedetto made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut in 2009 with Joe Gibbs Racing. He also competed in the NASCAR Camping World East Series for the team, securing his first win in 2009 at the Tri-County 150. Throughout his career, DiBenedetto has raced for various teams across NASCAR’s top divisions. In 2015, he moved to the Sprint Cup Series with BK Racing, where he achieved a career-best sixth-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016. He later joined Go Fas Racing in 2017, securing a ninth-place finish at the Daytona 500.
In 2019, DiBenedetto signed with Leavine Family Racing, recording a career-best second-place finish at the Bristol Night Race and leading 152 laps in the season. From 2020 to 2021, he drove for Wood Brothers Racing, making his first Cup Series playoffs appearance in 2020. He achieved his first career NASCAR national series win in the Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2022 while driving for Rackley W.A.R. In 2024, he joined Viking Motorsports for the NASCAR Xfinity Series, continuing his racing career. In 2025, while competing full-time for Viking Motorsports, he was released with three races remaining in the season, marking a turning point in his ongoing career.
